Not a great weekend of weather in store for many parts of Britain and Ireland thanks to low pressure dominating bringing showers or longer spells of rain to most areas. Some heavy rain is likely at times, and by the end of the weekend some locations may well have seen over 3 inches of rainfall which will bring the risk of localised flooding in places.
Low pressure starts the weekend to the south of the country but by the end of the weekend and into early next week it will be centred slap bang over the UK, becoming slow-moving in the process. This morning starts off with outbreaks of rain affecting many eastern and southern counties of the UK, the rain often heavy and persistent in nature. It is a drier and brighter start to the day across western parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and parts of west Wales although some showery rain is affecting the far northwest. The main emphasis today will be on that heavy rain to the south and east gradually extending its way further north and west across the mainland UK with many places seeing a pretty wet day. Somewhat drier and brighter conditions will move into south-eastern regions by this afternoon, and many parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland will stay mainly dry although some rain will move into the far west. Maximum temperatures today will generally be in the range of a rather cool 12°C to 15°C, but feeling colder in the rain and in the wind although winds in the south will ease.
Further rain is expected to fall across many areas tonight, but eastern districts will turn drier although further showers will develop later in the night. It will also be drier with scattered showers across Ireland and the far southwest of England but it won't be a cold night anywhere. Tomorrow sees the unsettled theme continuing with further showers or longer spells of rain for many regions with the wettest areas likely to be Northern Ireland, Wales and into parts of the Midlands.
