Final Week Of SummerAdded : Sunday at 15:15 This coming week will be the final week of meteorological summer and it's fair to say that, for many regions, Summer 2018 has been one of the best summers in recent history as far as warm and dry conditions go. In fact, mean temperatures since June 1st have been more than 2°C above normal in many regions but it remains to be seen where exactly Summer 2018 will end up when compared to the summers of 1976 and 2006.
So will this week help Summer 2018 to beat the previous records? Certainly today is doing nothing to help in terms of warmth or dryness as this afternoon's radar image shows:
With temperatures subdued as a result:
However an improvement is now moving in across Ireland and during the next 24 hours or so that improvement spreads to many areas as the low pressure system bringing today's wet and breezy weather is pushed away to the east by a ridge of high pressure extending in from the southwest:
Although there will be some showers around for Bank Holiday Monday, it will for the most part be a drier and brighter day.
By Tuesday high pressure is becoming more influential across southern Britain bringing some fine weather here with temperatures close to normal, but another band of rain threatens the northwest:
We are also watching that thundery low over the Bay Of Biscay on Tuesday. This feature looks set to push north/northeast on Tuesday night into Wednesday and could threaten southeast England with some thundery rain for a time:
The latest trend though is to keep that feature over mainland Europe so that for Britain and Ireland the second half of the week is looking mostly fine and settled as high pressure builds across the country:
Daytime temperatures will be around normal, and it will feel pleasant in the sunshine:
But, in an indication of the lengthening nights, it will be rather chilly by night, especially in rural areas:
