High Pressure Dominates...But For How Long?Added : Saturday at 14:30 The weather in the coming days across Britain and Ireland will be dominated by high pressure for many regions but with some exceptions, especially towards the north of the country this weekend.
Today's synoptic chart shows what's going on pretty well:
High pressure (1036mb) over the near continent keeps much of England, Wales and Ireland fine and dry. Meanwhile that deep low (977mb) close to Iceland sends its associated weather fronts across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland bringing wet and windy weather here. The forecast accumulated rainfall up until the end of today sums it up well:
The cold front associated with that area of low pressure will actually sink southwards during the next couple of days but as it runs into that area of high pressure so it will weaken significantly with little, if any, rain making it to the south of the UK:
This will allow a cooler air mass to move down in it's wake:
Under clear skies in the north on Sunday night a ground frost is expected, but it remains milder in the south under the cloud cover associated with that cold front:
By Monday night though that cooler air has extended to most places and an air frost is likely over parts of Scotland:
Daytime temperatures will still be respectable though and in the sunnier spells it will feel pleasant enough:
High pressure the main feature in the coming days then, and it's not really until next weekend when things may start to change:
The possible reason for a change? What is currently Tropical Storm Humberto as marked on the chart above. This is a long way off and liable to change, but recent model output has trended towards sending the remnants of Humberto near Britain and Ireland during the second half of the month:
Potentially opening the door to a more unsettled end to the month. All a long way off and plenty of changes are likely in the coming days. In the meantime, there will be plenty of fine, autumnal weather around with even northern regions of the country settling down for a time after this weekend.
