Mid-September Warmth For ManyAdded : Saturday at 14:15 Some rather contrasting weather on the way during the next few days with parts of north-western Britain seeing some very wet weather whilst further to the south and east it turns increasingly warm.
Here is the synoptic chart for tonight:
High pressure is sitting close to the south of the UK, but to the northwest a frontal system is moving in. This trailing frontal system doesn't go too far during the following couple of days:
The net result is that we end up with a rainfall accumulation chart looking like this by Tuesday morning:
Some parts of western Scotland potentially seeing in excess of 80 mm of rain during this period. However, further to the south and east the drier it is and here the attention is on rising temperatures during the next few days. The warmer air begins to move up from the south tomorrow:
Before Monday and Tuesday see temperatures across England and Wales climbing into the mid-high twenties:
The heat tending to become confined to more south-eastern regions by Tuesday. This set-up does bring the potential for one or two thunderstorms but the risk at this time of year is lower than it would otherwise be in July.
Thereafter and high pressure looks set to build strong to the north/northeast of the country which will do a couple of things. Firstly, it will allow northern regions to dry out. Secondly, somewhat cooler air will start to feed in from the east although most places will remain mostly fine and warm which is more than acceptable for mid-September:
So, after a very wet spell for the northwest this weekend, next week starts off on a very warm note, especially towards the south and east, before many regions see a slight cooling trend but remain mostly settled. Not bad for early autumn!
