Milder Next WeekAdded : Saturday at 13:41 Brrrr, it's a chilly old weekend out there with those cold north-easterly winds bringing a mixture of rain, sleet and snow showers in from the east across many areas. The good news if you're not a fan of this type of weather is that changes are on the way next week with milder air returning.
Here is today's synoptic chart:
High pressure is sitting over the Baltic and with low pressure over mainland Europe a run of east/north-easterly winds are feeding in bringing some pretty chilly air and that mixture of rain, sleet and snow showers:
If we look through the pressure charts for the next few days you will notice some subtle changes taking place with that positioning and orientation of that high:
Winds start to veer round to the southeast and then towards the south and this will have the effect of drawing up milder air from the Mediterranean region so temperatures are expected to recover well as we go through next week - in fact many southern regions could see values up into double figures by the second half of the week:
With that high never too far away from the east we are expecting there to be plenty of dry weather around for much of next week, especially in the east, and as we draw in drier continental air we are hopeful of there being more in the way of sunshine with the cloud breaking up more readily:
However out to the west there will be frontal systems lurking and these will bring the risk of some spells of rain at times, the heaviest of the rain always likely to be in the far west:
A quieter week on the cards then with temperatures recovering as mild air moves in from the south and southeast. There will still be plenty of dry weather around and we should see more in the way of sunshine developing, especially across central and eastern Britain, but some rain is likely to affect the west from time to time.
