Cooler This Week But Dry In The SouthAdded : Sunday at 15:12 If you live in England and Wales then the chances are that you've seen wall to wall sunshine for much of this weekend so far and temperatures this afternoon have hit a remarkable 25°C already. Here's the latest visible satellite picture:
Here are the latest temperatures:
Now the eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that there is a lot more in the way of cloud across the north and west with temperatures much cooler. This cloud is associated with a cold front and is bringing some patchy rain to the northwest this afternoon. This cold front will be pushing south-eastwards during the next 18 hours or so and by first thing on Monday morning it will be clearing southeast England:
Following this cold front comes a cooler air mass so to start the new working week temperatures in some areas will be around 10°C cooler than Sunday's maximums. You will notice that high pressure is still close-by though so there will still be a lot of dry weather around although some scattered showers will affect parts of the north and east.
This helps to set up the pattern for much of the week with pressure remaining high to the southwest for much of the time while frontal systems moving around the northern periphery of that high bring more cloud and the risk of some showery rain at times, especially to the north:
So although temperatures will be much nearer normal than of late, there will still be plenty of dry weather around this week, especially for the south and southwest of the country with western and north-western Scotland seeing the wettest conditions, as demonstrated nicely by the forecast accumulated rainfall out to Thursday morning:
Of course next weekend is the Easter weekend and there's a lot of interest in the weather prospects. It's still a way off and there is still some uncertainty but the numerical model output is keen to bring in a colder shot of air from the north with perhaps some snow over northern mountains and hills, a big contrast to the weather that many places have seen recently:
Keep checking back this week as we will bring you daily updates on the weather prospects for Easter.
