It Ain't Harvey!Added : Sunday at 8:51 Right, well we thought we would get that out of the way from the offset...
Take a look at the GFS ► forecast for next Saturday :-
Yep, a rather potent looking Atlantic depression coming in from the West brings the UK a taste of Autumn in the form of rain and gales. The ECMWF ► goes for a similar looking system :-
Now, we have no doubt that someone will try and say that it's remnants of Hurricane Harvey which affected Texas last week and it's not uncommon for remnants of these systems to curl back across the Atlantic and get wrapped up in a mid latitude low and affect the UK as a deep Atlantic weather system... but, this one contains NO remnants of Harvey.
If someone tells you that it does then you can use the following phrase on them "Darling, Harvey dissipated across North America over the weekend and virtually all of the mid and upper level energy actually went North into Canada. This, is a mid latitude low..." What accent you decide to put on when you say that is totally up to you.
If you take a look at the jet stream for the end of this week :-
Yup, a 300mph+ jet screaming across the Atlantic tells us that Autumn is now starting to muscle in thanks to the cooling temperature at the North Pole and still the residual warmth of the Tropics which provides the temperature gradient required to intensify the jet at this time of the year.
Just how this low develops and how deep it becomes is still open to interpretation, but the GFS ► brings some impressive winds across Southern England and the English Channel :-
Plenty of time left until this rattles in and we will be keeping a close eye on this throughout the week and will keep you updated, but the main thing to remember? It's not Harvey (Ed. I think you've made your point)
