Good morning. Feeling chilly in a cold South Westerly breeze this morning. Quite overcast and grey earlier but hazy sunshine now with some patches of blue sky visible. Grass is damp from overnight rain which did not amount to much. A dry day yesterday with gusty winds and mostly cloudy.

Good morning, everyone. It was beautifully sunny an hour ago, but the clouds are piling in and I can start to believe that heavy rain is on the way. Yesterday was cold and breezy but generally bright, until the Buxton veg man came to buy our duck and goose eggs and we had a downpour of hail and some thunder. Lots of rain overnight to follow. The duck and goose eggs go down a storm in Buxton (we can’t give them away to neighbours) but we’re down to one goose laying (the rest are too old)- we’ve looked but you can’t buy geese for love nor money (perhaps love is a bit strong, they’re geese 😛). I’m commiserating with sister who is on a short break on Hayling Island with her daughter, trying to convince her to stay and brave out the rain and wind, I’m telling her it’s not much better here but think I’m lying actually when I look at their forecast. Have a good day, all!

Bright skies and beaming sunshine to start the day but looking to the SW there's mischief afoot in the form of an oncoming storm !! Will it reach here by late afternoon ? Not certain. All the forecasts say we will have thunder & lightning by 6pm but what do they know? They have been wrong before. It has to make it across Cornwall and the Welsh Hills before it reaches us so could lose a lot of it's energy. Let's see. Meanwhile I am aiming to make the most of this sunshine. Blinds are wide open to get free heating and I might even pop to the green later for a roll up.

“I too enjoy the odd ciggie PETE but after watching Surgeons at The Edge of Life last night I'll be giving up. They did a big operation on a bloke with lung cancer coz he smoked. His lungs were black. My God it was a wake up call. ”

Morning all, I think we could have it all thrown at us today! There's blue skies to my north, and really dark clouds to my south. Forecast suggests we could get rain, thunder, more rain - the roads resemble swimming pools as it is - 50mph+ gusts are forecast for this afternoon too. What a lovely late March day!

Good morning. It’s a bright start to the day with lots of blue sky and sunshine. It’s chilly at 4 degrees with a breeze blowing from the south. That breeze will be a feature in today’s weather with gusts in excess of 40 mph expected during the day. Rain expected from about mid morning and a top temp of only 9 degrees. Batten down the hatches and stay safe.

Whoah! How clever is this? The Metcheck Thunderstorm Tracker Satellite allows you to see the developing storms across Western Europe and tells you whether they are growing or decaying. Every 15 minutes we take a snapshot of the cloud cover then measure the temperature and height of the clouds and show you whether the area of clouds are developing into thunderstorms and what direction they are moving in.

You probably hear a lot about the Jet Stream in the news. It's either too far North or too far South. The jet stream is identified as winds at 300mb (during Winter) and 200mb (during Summer). It is these winds which are responsible for driving and developing weather systems across the Atlantic.
