The area of low pressure that brought some much needed rainfall across central regions yesterday is now pulling away to the east with a weak ridge of high pressure trying to build back in in its wake but another frontal system is slowly pushing into south-western regions of Britain and Ireland bringing cloudy skies and some rain here.
We start Wednesday with some lingering cloud and a few scattered showers across central and eastern regions of England and Scotland but for most other regions it is a fine and fresh start to the day. However, another band of cloud with some rain is affecting southwest England and southwest Ireland and this will edge a little further north-eastwards today, perhaps arriving across southwest Wales by this afternoon. Otherwise for much of the country there will be plenty of dry and fine weather around with the cloud breaking up for many central and eastern regions although occasional showers may affect parts of southern Scotland and northern England. It will be a warmer day compared to yesterday with maximums ranging from 19°C to 23°C in the north and 23°C to 25°C in the south but sea breezes will develop around coasts.
That cloud and patchy rain in the southwest will push further northwards tonight across Wales, much of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the rain turning heavy at times in the west. It remains drier and clearer further north and east but it won't be a cold night with temperatures towards the southwest in particular holding up in the high teens. Tomorrow is then set to be largely fine across northeast Scotland along with southern and eastern regions of England but elsewhere cloudier skies with some showery rain will continue to affect western and north-western regions.
