Pressure is slowly falling across much of Britain and Ireland today and this will mean an increased risk of scattered showers breaking out. Not everywhere will catch the showers, but low pressure is expected to take control over the coming days bringing more widespread rain and showers.
Back to this morning and there are already some scattered showers around, especially across northern and eastern Scotland, northeast England, northwest England, parts of Wales and down towards southeast England. Where skies have remained clear it is a chilly start with some patchy frost but in these areas it will be a bright start with plenty of sunshine around. The main trend for today will be for scattered showers to break out more widely, especially across central, northern and eastern regions of Britain, but not everywhere will catch them with some places staying dry and bright. It will also be cold enough for the showers to be wintry over the Scottish hills and mountains.
The biggest change will come across Ireland where the weather for much of this week has been very pleasant with temperatures in the mid-high teens. Today sees increasing cloud moving in from the west as a frontal system makes inroads, this cloud bringing some rain and drizzle into the west and southwest whilst temperatures will be down on recent days so feeling cooler.
Indeed, for many areas temperatures will again be nothing to shout about for the end of April with maximums ranging from 7°C to 10°C in the north and east to highs of 14°C or 15°C towards the south and southwest of the country
Outbreaks of rain and drizzle across parts of Ireland will spread into parts of southwest England and south Wales tonight but for many places it will become cold with a frost forming where skies clear as showers become confined to coastal regions. Tomorrow sees showers developing more widely again but there will be some sunny spells in-between with some places managing to remain mostly dry for much of the day.
