Low pressure out over the Atlantic is slowly drifting towards the UK and will affect many parts of the country during the next few days bringing some showers or longer spells of rain at times. However this low is also drawing up some mild south/south-westerly winds and there will be some bright and warm weather around too, especially towards the southeast of England.
For this morning then and it is a rather cloudy, misty and murky start to the day across much of the UK but it is mild with temperatures already in double figures towards the south and west. Outbreaks of patchy rain are pushing north-eastwards and this process will continue throughout today, the rain turning heavy and persistent at times across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, especially over higher ground. Meanwhile for central and eastern parts of England it will become mainly dry and the cloud will start to break up to allow some sunny spells through, the best of these coming towards southeast England. Temperatures will pick up as a result with maximums of 17°C or 18°C possible in the brighter areas, but more widely highs will be in the range of 12°C to 15°C whilst it will become rather windy.
Periods of rain will continue to feed in across much of the north and west of the UK tonight, again heaviest and most persistent over west-facing up-slopes. It will be drier towards the southeast but it will be a mild night everywhere with temperatures for many remaining up in double figures. Looking ahead to tomorrow and little change is expected with occasional rain pushing in from the southwest, the heaviest and most persistent of the rain in the west, but towards East Anglia and south-east England it becomes warm with sunny spells and temperatures potentially approaching the 21°C mark.
