Low pressure moving in across western parts of Britain and Ireland dominates the weather today as it brings a fairly slow-moving band of rain with it, some of this rain heavy and persistent. It will also become rather windy too, especially around exposed coasts and hills, making it feel rather unseasonable, which shouldn't come as too much of a surprise with many schools breaking up for the summer holidays!
It won’t be wet everywhere though and for much of the north and east of the country we will be starting the day off on a dry and bright note and although cloud will tend to increase from the west as we go through the day. If you are in Scotland, or central and eastern regions of England, you will get away with a dry day with spells of hazy sunshine and just the small risk of an isolated shower breaking out. Meanwhile that rain over Ireland is already affecting many parts of Wales and western parts of England
and it will slowly edge further east today allowing brighter conditions but with further scattered heavy showers to follow in from the west. Temperatures will end up close to normal with maximums of 18°C to 22°C, but it will feel cooler in the freshening south/south-easterly winds.
That band of rain continues to make rather slow eastwards progress across England tonight with drier conditions following on from the west. It will also stay dry for much of Scotland bar the odd shower, but further showery outbreaks of rain will affect parts of southern Ireland, Wales and southwest England where it will remain rather windy. The weekend sees low pressure dominating across much of the country with further showers and bands circulating around this feature, these locally heavy and thundery at times, but there will be some drier and brighter spells at times too.
