The weekend is here but it's not all good news as low pressure continues to sit over southern parts of the country today although it is a filling feature now meaning that the winds will generally not be as strong as they were yesterday. This low continues to hang around for the next couple of days before slowly pulling away to the east as we go into the early part of next week.
Therefore the weekend is starting off on a cloudy and wet note across many northern and eastern parts of England with some locally heavy rain slowly pushing northwards into parts of southern Scotland today. It's also a showery start towards Wales and southwest England but elsewhere the weekend is dawning dry with some bright or sunny spells. The best of the sunshine today will come across northern Scotland, particularly towards the northwest where a fine day is in store, but elsewhere it will be an increasingly showery day, especially across England and Wales, these showers turning heavy with a risk of hail and thunder at times and merging into bands of more persistent showers in places. There will be some brighter spells in-between though, and some areas will do well and manage to miss most of the showers. Temperatures will be close to normal for many, but it will feel pleasant enough in the sunnier spells and with those lighter winds.
Showers will continue tonight but they will tend to become less heavy and less frequent. It will become dry with some clear spells towards the west and southwest and this will allow for a fairly cool and fresh night with temperatures dropping back into single figures in places. As we go into tomorrow so further showers are expected to develop, again some of these showers turning heavy with a risk of thunder in places, but some southern and western regions will get away with a mostly dry day.
