The area of low pressure that has brought the heavy showers and longer spells of rain during the last couple of days is still hanging around today. There are some subtle differences with this low now drifting slowly across the North Sea which means we can expect cool north/north-easterly winds to develop during the next 24 hours or so. The changeable theme then looks like continuing during the coming week as further weather systems move in from off the Atlantic.
Sunday has dawned rather cloudy in many regions with some scattered showers around, especially across parts of central and northern England and up into Scotland.
As we go through the day we are expecting further showers to develop across England and Wales, these showers turning heavy with a risk of thunder in places and once again they will also merge into longer spells of rain at times. Despite the showers, there will still be some brighter spells in-between, and some areas will do well and manage to miss most of the showers. The most favoured areas for staying dry and bright today will be northern parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Top temperatures will be in the range of 19°C to 23°C and it will feel pleasant in any sunshine.
Those showers will continue into tonight but they will tend to become less heavy and less frequent although some more persistent rain may affect northern parts of England for a time. It will become dry with some clear spells towards the west and northwest but it won't be a cold night anywhere. As we go into the start of the new week there will be more in the way of drier and brighter weather around as that low pulls away to the east, but there will still be some showery rain affecting eastern regions for a time along with a cool northerly breeze.
