A ridge of high pressure will bring a dry and fine day to many parts of the country today but out to the west a frontal system containing the remnants of ex-Hurricane Gert will be moving in bringing outbreaks of rain with it later. Although not a tropical cyclone anymore, these remnants will help to introduce warm and humid conditions from the southwest as we go through the next couple of days.
It's a cool, fresh and bright start to Sunday in many areas and there will be plenty of sunshine around for much of today, especially across central and eastern regions. There will be more cloud towards northern parts where one or two showers are still possible at times, but even these will tend to fade away by this afternoon. However out towards the west and southwest cloud will be increasing and thickening as we go through the day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle pushing in from the southwest, the rain turning heavy and persistent over Ireland this afternoon before spreading into Wales and southwest England. Temperatures will feel pleasant enough in the sunshine with maximums in the range of 18°C to 22°C and with lighter winds than of late.
Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will continue to affect parts of Ireland, Wales and southern England tonight, the rain slowly edging further north-eastwards, but this means a rather warm and humid night for these areas. For north and eastern Britain it will be a mainly dry night with clear spells allowing temperatures to drop down into single figures across Scotland and northern England. It remains fine in the northeast with sunny spells for much of tomorrow but further south that cloud and rain will continue to slowly move north-eastwards, turning heavy and persistent in the northwest later as warm and humid conditions follow on from the southwest.
