We lose the muggy tropical air during the next 18 hours or so as a cold front pushing eastwards introduces a fresher air mass from off the North Atlantic. Bar the odd heavy, thundery shower, this cold front is fairly weak across southern regions but is bringing some heavy rain to Scotland before clearing to leave many areas with a drier and brighter second half of the week although showers will continue to plague north-western regions.
Wednesday morning is dawning cloudy and misty for many areas with plenty of hill fog around once again. Outbreaks of rain are pushing eastwards across central and eastern regions of the UK, the heaviest and most persistent of the rain coming across Scotland with any rain further south more showery in nature although the odd shower is quite heavy with a rumble or two of thunder. Those showers and that more persistent rain will continue to push eastwards today allowing the brighter conditions already arriving across the west to follow on behind, but the far northeast of Scotland will remain cloudy and wet for much of the day and eastern counties of England may remain cloudy until dark. It will still be rather muggy towards the east and southeast for much of the day with top temperatures of 22°C to 26°C, but it will be turning fresher from the west for most areas with a west/south-westerly breeze picking up.
A fresher night follows with many areas seeing some clear spells developing but scattered showers are likely to feed into western regions during the course of the night on those west/south-westerly winds. This sets the scene for tomorrow with many places enjoying some fine and pleasantly warm summer sunshine but showers will continue to affect northern and western regions of Britain and Ireland and they may become more widespread for a time but many southern regions will miss them and remain dry.
