A more definitive east-west split in the weather can be seen today with an Atlantic frontal system slowly pushing in from the west across western parts of Britain and Ireland but a large blocking high to the east is keeping many eastern regions fine, bright and warm. This front will continue to try and continue on its journey eastwards during the next 24 hours, but it will be a slow process.
Sunday morning is dawning dry with sunny spells across many central and eastern regions of Britain and for these areas it will be a fine and dry day with further spells of sunshine, although it will tend to turn increasingly hazy from the west. Out to the west it is a different story with a lot of cloud around this morning across western Scotland, western parts of England and Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. We have outbreaks of rain affecting these areas too and as we go through the day we are expecting further pulses of occasionally heavy rain to push northwards across these regions with any eastwards progression of the rain band being very slow. Brighter skies will however develop across Ireland and Northern Ireland although the odd shower cannot be ruled out. In the sunshine towards the east and southeast it will be quite warm with top temperatures of 19°C to 22°C but it will be cooler towards the cloudier west and north.
Cloud and outbreaks of rain , heavy at times, will continue across those western regions tonight but will push into central regions at times. To the east it remains dry and mild but over Ireland and Northern Ireland a cooler night is expected under clearer skies. As we go into the start of the new week that rain band looks set to divide the country with some central areas seeing some rather wet weather before the rain tends to fizzle out as we go through the day but to the west and east it will again be drier and brighter.
