High pressure sitting close to the southwest of Britain and Ireland will be dominating the weather across much of the country today with the blustery winds from yesterday slowly easing. However with these winds feeding in off the North Atlantic, they will bring variable and often large amounts of cloud with them at times.
It’s a bright and breezy start to Tuesday across many parts of the country with the best of the sunshine coming across more eastern districts. There is more cloud out towards the north and west, this cloud bringing a few showers with it, especially across northern and western parts of Scotland. As we go through the day the skies will tend to cloud up across most regions with any bright or sunny spells becoming rather more limited although areas to the east and south will remain brightest. However, apart from a continued risk of a few showers in the north and west, most places will stay dry for most of the day. Temperatures won’t be too far from normal for early October with maximums into the mid-teens at best but the winds will still be quite brisk at times and so will take the edge off those temperatures.
A mainly dry night follows with variable amounts of cloud but with that cloud cover temperatures won’t drop away too far. Winds will tend to start to pick up again as outbreaks of showery rain turn heavier and more persistent over northern and western parts of Scotland. This means that Wednesday will be a wet and windy day for the north of the UK with rain turning heavy and persistent, especially over western hills. However further south it will remain mostly dry with perhaps some brightness, but that rain in the north will gradually be making its way further south, probably not reaching the far south until Thursday though.
