Low pressure is sitting over many parts of Britain and Ireland today but despite this there will be a fair amount of fairly reasonable early spring weather around with some sunny spells and temperatures nudging back up to near normal values in many southern regions. For the north though it remains rather cold with rain and snow pushing slowly northwards.
There's very much a north/south split in the weather today with many parts of northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland dawning dull and cloudy with outbreaks of rain and snow gradually making their way northwards. Although some snow is falling to lower levels over inland parts of Scotland this morning, most of the snow will become confined to the hills and mountains today with northern England, Northern Ireland and southern parts of Scotland turning drier and brighter by this afternoon. Meanwhile, for the rest of England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland a rather murky start will give way to brighter conditions developing and although the odd shower may break out this afternoon, many of these regions will see a reasonable day with some good spells of sunshine developing. It will feel pleasant in the sunshine and with light winds in the south as temperatures reach maximums of 9°C to 12°C, but it will be colder and windier across many northern regions with temperatures over inland parts of Scotland again struggling to get much above freezing.
That band of rain and hill snow becomes confined to the far north tonight and then, apart from a few coastal showers lingering, many areas will become dry with some clear spells forming. These will allow temperatures to drop low enough for a touch of frost in places and some mist or fog patches may form later in the night. Wednesday is then set to be a day of sunny spells and scattered showers, the showers mainly affecting coastal regions in the north, south and west.
