It's a very cold morning out there this morning with a widespread frost having formed overnight despite the strong winds, cloud and outbreaks of snow. Some locally quite significant falls of snow have occurred bringing transport disruption and hazardous travelling conditions, but the trend today is for high pressure to edge closer helping to kill off the snow showers.
For most places it's a cloudy and windy start to Sunday with showery outbreaks of snow continuing to push westwards. Whilst the snow is on the light side for some, in other areas the snow has turned heavy and persistent at times bringing some locally disruptive accumulations. It is very localised though so although you may not have any snow, a few miles down the road there could be a decent covering so this is something to bear in mind if you're heading out. The trend today will be for the snow and snow showers to gradually push westwards allowing drier and somewhat brighter conditions to follow on into eastern regions by this afternoon. Despite this it will be another very cold day for most with temperatures once again struggling to climb much above freezing for many so maximums today are likely to be around the coasts of the far north and far southwest where 5°C or 6°C may be reached.
Another widespread, penetrating frost forms widely tonight with temperatures dropping well below freezing bringing the risk of icy surfaces. A few snow flurries may continue, especially towards the southwest where more in the way of showers are possible. This takes us into a cold start to the new working week but apart from a few scattered wintry showers, there should be plenty of dry and bright weather around tomorrow with some sunny intervals and temperatures will be a touch higher as a result although still very much on the cold side of normal.
