An unsettled picture across many parts of the UK and Ireland as we go through the midweek period with low pressure sitting to the northwest of the country. A secondary low pressure system is also pushing eastwards across southern counties of England and Wales today so if you get away with a dry day then you will do very well indeed.
It's a wet start to the day across south-western parts of England and up into Wales with some locally rather heavy rain moving in in association with that secondary low. This cloud and rain will push eastwards this morning across southern regions of the UK, the rain perhaps falling as sleet or wet snow in places, but as we go through this afternoon that rain will be clearing away to the east. This will allow brighter conditions affecting many other regions to follow on behind, but scattered showers are expected to continue across northern and western regions and these will break out more widely by this afternoon although there will still be some pleasant sunny spells in-between. Meanwhile for the far northeast of Scotland and the Northern Isles a cool and wet day is in store with periods of rain. Maximum temperatures will range from 4°C to 8°C so it will be a rather cold day for the end of March, especially where it remains wet.
Most places will become dry and chilly tonight with a widespread frost forming as skies clear but showers will continue around some western coasts whilst cloud and rain continues to plague the northeast. Later in the night heavy showers will approach the southwest and this sets the scene for tomorrow with most regions seeing a mixture of sunny intervals and scattered showers, the showers turning heavy and persistent at times and falling as snow over higher ground but some northern and eastern regions may well remain dry and bright for much of the day.
