Low pressure is well and truly in charge of the weather for this Easter Monday with its associated frontal systems pushing northwards bringing outbreaks of rain and snow with them, but milder air will be following from the south with temperatures set to slowly recover during the course of this week - northern Britain being the last to see the milder air.
It's a wet and miserable start to the day across much of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with outbreaks of locally heavy and persistent rain slowly pushing northwards this morning. Snow is also falling across higher parts of Wales and northern England and this may bring some problems for a time today, but the snow will gradually turn back to rain as milder air feeds in from the south. To the north and it is a frosty morning across many parts of Scotland with a few scattered wintry showers in places, but that band of rain will be moving northwards today, again bringing a spell of snow to higher ground, although for northern Scotland it will remain bright with just a few showers throughout daylight hours. Meanwhile somewhat drier and brighter conditions will follow the rain in across southern regions although further showers cannot be ruled out. With those brighter conditions in the south will come milder temperatures of 10°C to 13°C, but it will remain cold in the north with highs here ranging from 0°C to 5°C.
The rain and snow will continue to slowly push north across northern Britain tonight with clear spells and scattered heavy showers following on behind. Temperatures will remain close to freezing in the north, but in the south it will be a mild night with temperatures holding up in double figures in places. Tuesday will be another cold day in the north with rain and snow affecting Scotland but further south it will be milder with temperatures into the low teens. Here there will be some bright or sunny spells, but also some locally rather heavy showers breaking out.
