Most of the attention during the next couple of days will be on a deepening area of low pressure passing close to south-eastern parts of England bringing some very wet and very windy weather with it as it does so. Some areas could well see in excess of two inches of rain along with coastal gales which combined will bring the risk of some localised flooding and disruption with high spring tides also expected.
Back to today's forecast and once again there will be a northwest/southeast split in the weather today with much of the north and west of Britain and Ireland seeing plenty of dry weather with some bright or sunny spells. Some scattered showers will break out again as we go through the day, but on the whole they will be lighter and more scattered than they have been over the last couple of days. Meanwhile across many central, southern and eastern regions of the UK there will be a lot of cloud around again today with some patchy rain and drizzle at times making for another cool and damp day with temperatures struggling to make double figures, but in the brighter areas highs will be in the range of 10°C to 13°C. North/north-easterly winds will tend to freshen during the day ahead of outbreaks of heavy and persistent rain moving into the far southeast of England during this evening.
Strong to gale force north/north-easterly winds will bring persistent and heavy rain into southeast England and East Anglia tonight but across much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland it will be a dry night with clear spells allowing for some frost to form. These areas will then start the new week off on a dry note with some sunny spells, but the further southeast that you come the worse the weather will be with a pretty dreadful day expected across East Anglia and southeast England as rain and gales continue for much of the day with some locally large rainfall totals developing. Temperatures will be extremely suppressed as a result and it could even be cold enough for some wet snow on higher ground.
