It's quite a messy weather pattern out there as we enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend, but it's not all bad. High pressure is still sitting to the north/northeast of the UK and will remain slow-moving for several days to come bringing plenty of fine weather to many areas, but a thundery low over France and Spain will continue to try and push northwards bringing the risk of thundery showers, especially to more southern regions.
It's a rather misty and murky start to the weekend with a lot of cloud around as the remnants of yesterday's front fizzle out over parts of Ireland, Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England, the cloud thick enough still to bring some showers in places. Skies will tend to brighten up in many areas as we go through the day with some warm sunny spells developing, but eastern coasts may well remain cool and misty thanks to the onshore wind. Meanwhile for southern and south-western counties of England and Wales scattered showers are expected to break out during the day, these turning heavy with a risk of hail and thunder but not everyone will see them and some areas will remain fine. In the best of the sunshine it will be warm with maximums of 21°C to 24°C, but always that bit cooler around the coasts with sea breezes developing.
Heavy, thundery showers will continue across southern and south-western parts of the UK tonight, spreading across into the Republic of Ireland as well. Elsewhere and there will be plenty of dry weather around but mist and low cloud is likely to spread in from the east during the night. Sunday sees the risk of further heavy and thundery showers towards the south and southwest of the UK and Ireland, but further to the north it will be fine and warm after low cloud and mist clears although eastern coastal regions will remain cooler.
