Some changes are expected in the weather during the coming week as the Atlantic jet stream awakens bringing back with it a more traditional westerly pattern to our weather. For today though it is a case of more of the same with a slack synoptic set-up once again helping some scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms to break out in some areas.
This morning starts off with the odd shower around across the south and southeast of England, and there are once again areas of mist, fog and low cloud around but these will tend to lift and clear quite readily although low cloud will once again tend to linger around some coastal regions today keeping it cooler here. For the most part though some warm spells of sunshine will be found in many regions with most places remaining fine and dry today. However, once again a scattering of heavy and thundery showers will break out, most likely over parts of northern England along with central and southern Scotland, but a shower could pop up almost anywhere. If you do catch a shower then it could be torrential in nature bringing the risk of hail and C-G lightning, but the heaviest downpours will be quite localised. Temperatures today will range from 17°C to 21°C in the cloudier regions and 22°C to 26°C in the sunnier spots making it feel quite humid, especially in the south with light winds.
Any showers and storms will die away tonight to leave much of the UK and Ireland dry with clear spells but some mist, fog and low cloud will form once more. It will be a mild night with temperatures across parts of the south holding up in the mid-teens. The new working week then starts off on a similar note but as we go through the week a return to more traditional westerly-type pattern looks probable with the north and west in particular turning more unsettled.
