Low pressure moving across the country today brings a changeable midweek period to many parts of the country with strong winds, showers and longer spells of rain affecting many regions. However, this low is moving through quite quickly and will give way to a drier and colder night tonight with a brighter day to follow tomorrow before more wind and rain arrives for the end of the week.
Although the extreme east and northeast are starting dry this morning, along with much of central and western parts of both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland where it is a chilly start, many places are cloudy and windy as outbreaks of rain push north and east, the rain locally on the heavy side and accompanied by some gusty winds with gales in exposed spots. That rain continues to make its way north and east today allowing brighter skies to follow on from the south and west although further showers will break out, and some of these could be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder. The best of the weather today is likely to come towards southwest Ireland where there will be fewer showers and more in the way of sunshine around. It will still be mild in many places despite the blustery winds with top temperatures of 12°C to 15°C, but it will be cooler in the west.
Rain and showers continue to clear away to the north and east this evening and as we head on through the night clearing skies and lighter winds will allow temperatures to take a tumble with a ground frost forming in places by dawn, although further showers will move into south-western areas later in the night. Tomorrow sees showery rain across Wales and southwest England turning heavy and persistent at times, spreading into northwest England later, but elsewhere should see a mainly dry and bright day with some sunny spells.
