It's been another fascinating year of weather and we've been thrilled to share the journey, which included a visit from the "Beast From The East" and a long, hot and dry summer in many regions, with you. All of us here at Metcheck would like to thank you for your ongoing support and we can't wait to see what 2019 brings us.
2018 is certainly ending on a rather quiet note for many thanks to high pressure sitting over the southwest, but for the far northeast a spell of very windy weather is expected to develop later on today as a deep low sweeps into Scandinavia. For most places it will be another generally cloudy day with only limited bright or sunny spells in one or two areas. Whilst most will stay dry, some rain and drizzle will affect parts of the north and west, this turning heavier and more persistent across northern and western Scotland this afternoon as westerly winds become quite strong and blustery. Winds will be lighter the further south that you are, but it will again be mild everywhere with top temperatures of 9°C to 11°C.
The west/north-westerly winds strengthen further across the far northeast of Scotland and the Northern Isles tonight with gales or severe gales developing for a time bringing the risk of gusts up to 70 MPH before the winds slowly ease later in the night. Much of Britain and Ireland will see a mild and cloudy evening with some patchy rain and drizzle in places, but later in the night clearing skies over northern Scotland will allow for some patchy frost to form. This colder weather then sinks southwards tomorrow behind a band of cloud and patchy rain, but with the colder air will come clearer conditions so the sunshine will return although a few wintry showers will affect the far northeast.
All that's left for us to do now is to wish each and every one of you a very Happy New Year!
