It's back to a milder regime for today across Britain and Ireland thanks to winds backing into a west/south-westerly direction. These winds will be bringing plenty of moisture with them so cloudy skies will again dominate and for parts of the north and west it will end up a pretty wet day.
Although it is a chilly start across the far southeast where skies remained clearest for longest overnight, most regions are starting Tuesday off on a relatively mild note thanks to cloud streaming in from the west, this cloud bringing some rain and drizzle in places, especially over higher ground in the north and west. No huge changes are expected today with many places remaining mostly cloudy with some damp weather at times, especially over western hills, but the rain will be heaviest and most persistent across northern and western parts of Scotland. Some brighter spells are possible towards more sheltered southern and eastern regions, but sunshine will be at a premium. It will be fairly mild for most as top temperatures today will generally be in the range of 8°C to 11°C for many regions, the mildest figures coming across western and south-western coastal regions, but it will feel cooler in the fresh to strong winds.
A cloudy, mild night follows with further patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle possible just about anywhere, but as we go through the night, winds will become strong in the north and west as outbreaks of more persistent rain move in across Ireland, Northern Ireland and many parts of Scotland. This band of rain makes it way south-eastwards tomorrow, reaching the southeast of England later in the day, with brighter, colder and more showery conditions following on from the west and northwest, the showers turning wintry over higher ground as it turns colder.
