The cold front that has been making its way south-eastwards across Britain and Ireland during the last day or so is now becoming very slow-moving across southern and south-eastern counties of England although it has weakened significantly meaning that there's very little rain left on it. High pressure building in behind this front is then bringing plenty of dry weather to many, although the north and west will remain rather windy and showery throughout the weekend thanks to low pressure passing close-by.
It's a dull and damp start to the day across southern and south-eastern counties of England and these areas are likely to remain mostly cloudy today although any rain and drizzle will soon tend to die out. Further to the north and west it will be a brighter picture with some good sunny spells around although blustery showers are continuing to feed into northern and western Scotland. Not a lot of change is expected as we head on through the day with the cloud in the south edging a little further south whilst the showers in the north and west will tend to become less frequent. It will be a cooler day than of late with top temperatures of 9°C to 12°C for many areas, but it will be colder over Scotland, especially across higher ground where showers will be wintry.
Where skies are clear this evening and tonight then temperatures will drop low enough for some frost in places, but it will remain milder in the far south and southeast where the cloud lingers, this cloud bringing some rain and drizzle in places, especially towards the southwest of England. The showers will tend to become heavier and more frequent across northern and western Scotland tonight and this sets the scene for Scotland tomorrow with showers and blustery winds. For the rest of Britain and Ireland though it is looking drier and brighter with the cloud in the south slowly but surely sinking away across the Channel.
