A rather chilly couple of days in store across many parts of Britain and Ireland as northerly winds dominate, but there will be a fair amount of sunshine around with showers mainly confined towards the north and east. However, clear skies by night combined with the Arctic air mass will bring the risk of frost so this is something to watch out for if you're a gardener or grower.
There's still some cloud and a few showers around across southern counties of England this morning as the remnants of the cold front that has introduced the colder air continue to slip away to the south. Otherwise for many areas it's a fine and dry start to the day with plenty of sunshine around, and for many central and western regions it will be a mostly fine day with just the odd rogue sower breaking out. Meanwhile, for northern and eastern parts of the UK there is a brisk northerly wind blowing, this wind feeding in showers, some of which are heavy and wintry over higher ground, and this showery theme continues today, the showers breaking our a little further inland at times too with hail and the odd rumble of thunder possible. Top temperatures today will be below normal for most with maximums ranging from 6°C to 9°C in the north and 11°C to 14°C in the south with the wind making it feel colder, but out of the wind and in the sunshine it will feel pleasant enough.
The showers will ease back towards windward coasts tonight with many areas seeing long clear spells developing. This, combined with the winds dropping a touch, will be the perfect recipe for temperatures to fall sharply with a widespread frost forming in rural regions, but it will be less cold around the coasts. Tomorrow will then be a mostly dry day with sunny spells and just the odd shower, but thicker cloud and some rain or drizzle will arrive in the north during the course of the day whilst temperatures will remain below where they should be for the time of year.
