A new day but the same old weather story we're afraid to report. Low pressure continues to control our weather bringing showers or longer spells of rain to many areas but over the next few days there will be some changes as the low pulls away to the northwest a touch allowing warmer conditions to develop although it will remain showery for many.
It's a pretty dull and miserable Thursday morning out there for many regions with leaden skies and outbreaks of rain and drizzle. The only exceptions come across the far southeast of England and the far northwest of the UK and Ireland where there are some early bright or sunny spells to be found. As we push on through the day the rain will tend to make its way a little further north-westwards, easing as it does so, whilst becoming more showery in nature across England and Wales. Some of those showers will be heavy though and could turn thundery in places with some locally torrential downpours. This means that the best of the drier and brighter weather on offer today will be found across Ireland and the far southeast of England although even here showers cannot be ruled out. Maximum temperatures will range from highs of a rather chilly 8°C or 9°C in the wetter areas of northern Britain to a warmer 18°C or 19°C in the best of any sunshine across southeast England.
Some drier interludes will develop in places tonight but for many areas it will be relatively mild night with temperatures holding up thanks to a lot of cloud, a breeze and further showers or longer spells of rain circulating around that low pressure system. Friday is then set to be a showery day with some of those showers again turning heavy at times, but there will also be more in the way of drier and brighter spells compared to recently with several places getting away with a mostly dry day and experiencing somewhat warmer temperatures.
