The area of low pressure that brought yesterday's rain, thunderstorms and even a report of a potential tornado in the Manchester area, is now moving away to the northeast so it's an improving picture for many places over the weekend although freshening winds and rain will return to the northwest during tomorrow.
There's a fair amount of cloud around across England, Wales and Scotland to start the weekend off with and there's some heavy, thundery rain close to the far southeast England which will soon clear away. Meanwhile, scattered showers are affecting parts of the north and northwest but as we go through the day many areas will become brighter with some sunny spells developing. However, the sunshine will help to trigger some locally heavy and thundery downpours by this afternoon, especially across eastern and north-eastern regions of the UK although not everywhere will catch them. Out towards the west and for much of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland it will be a much drier and brighter day with just the odd shower whilst temperatures will reach maximums of 18°C to 21°C. It will be warmer the further south and east that you are with highs across south-eastern regions again in the range of 23°C to 25°C.
Showers will tend to die out tonight with clear periods developing in many areas. It will be somewhat fresher than recent nights but temperatures will still hold up in the low-teens for many. Later in the night freshening winds and thickening cloud will bring some rain into western parts of Ireland and this rain will push north-eastwards across north-western regions tomorrow. Meanwhile, it will be a brighter and warmer outlook the further south and east that you are with temperatures set to rise further next week.
