This week's weather is set to be dominated by low pressure with one slow-moving system slowly crossing the country during the next few days. Showers or longer spells of rain will be the main theme for most places, but it's not all bad news as there will be some drier and brighter spells at times too.
This morning is starting off on a rather cloudy note in many areas with showery outbreaks of rain pushing their way north and eastwards, the heaviest of these coming across parts of Scotland where the odd rumble of thunder is still possible. These showery outbreaks will clear away to the east this morning, although they may linger for a while across southeast England, otherwise for many parts of England and Wales there will be plenty of dry weather around today with some sunny spells. A few showers may break out by this afternoon but most of the showers today will be found across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Here the showers will often be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder, but even so there will still be some brighter intervals in-between. Temperatures today will range from 18°C to 21°C in the showery regions to a warmer 22°C to 25°C in the best of the sunshine towards the southeast of England.
Showers will continue to affect the north and west tonight, often heavy, and are likely to spread into western parts of England and Wales during the second half of the night. Eastern regions will remain drier with some clear spells but it won't be a cold night anywhere. Tuesday is then set to be a showery day for many parts of the country with some locally torrential downpours developing along with hail and thunder in places, but the extreme northeast and southeast of the UK may well escape most of the showers.
