Low pressure is still in charge of the weather across Britain and Ireland as we head into the new working week but it is slowly weakening and moving away to the northeast so this will allow for an improvement during the next couple of days. For northern and western regions this improvement will be temporary as further systems move in from off the Atlantic during the week, but for the south and east high pressure looks set to become more influential.
Back to this morning and the showers overnight tended to become confined to regions exposed to the westerly wind, but some showers are feeding further inland, for example up through the Bristol Channel. For many places Monday will be a day of sunny spells and scattered showers but, just like recent days, not everywhere will see the showers and some places will stay dry with parts of northeast England and eastern Scotland having the best chance of seeing a dry day. On the other hand, there will be more in the way of showers around across parts of England and Wales compared to yesterday, and some of the showers could be heavy with a rumble or two of thunder. Temperatures will mostly be around normal, but add in the breeze and where the showers occur then it will be feeling rather cool.
The showers will slowly die out tonight but a few could well linger into the early hours across parts of the north and west before some rain and drizzle moves into parts of Ireland. Otherwise, with clearing skies and winds easing a touch, it will turn cool with temperatures dipping back down into single figures in rural regions. This does mean a bright start for Tuesday though and whilst many places will see a dry day with some sunny spells, the occasional shower cannot be ruled out. Skies will tend to be cloudier out towards western regions, however, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle slowly making their way further northeast, reaching parts of Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England during the course of the day.
