A ridge of high pressure is building in to bring a drier and quieter period of weather to many areas. However, this ridge will come under pressure from low pressure systems approaching from the northwest with these changeable conditions affecting the north and west before spreading further south and east by the end of the week.
Back to this morning and it is a bright and chilly start to the day for many central and southern regions with some patchy ground frost in places along with some mist and fog patches. These will lift and clear this morning, perhaps leaving some low cloud around for a time, and then many parts of the country will enjoy a mostly dry day with some sunny intervals and variable amounts of cloud. The main exception will come towards northern and western parts of Scotland where there will be more cloud coming in on a freshening south/south-westerly wind, this cloud thick enough to bring some rain and drizzle at times across the far north. This cloudier and breezier weather will edge a little further southeast during the day, reaching parts of Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and northwest England. Temperatures will pick up after that chilly start to highs of 11°C to 15°C in many regions, but it will feel cooler in the breezy northwest.
A fine and chilly night follows in the south tonight with clear spells again allowing for some mist and fog patches to form as temperatures drop away. It will be milder towards the north and west where cloudy skies prevail and the wind remains stronger, the cloud bringing some rain and drizzle at times. Cloud will also tend to increase towards southeast England tonight as a weak warm front moves up from the continent, bringing a little light rain and drizzle in places. This edges a little further north and west tomorrow, otherwise on the whole very little change is expected central and south-western regions remaining mostly fine and settled under a ridge of high pressure whilst the further north and west that you are the cooler and more changeable it will be with rain developing in the far north and west.
