Weather fronts are encroaching on the UK from the northwest and the southeast today meaning that the ridge of high pressure across central and south-western regions will be coming under increased pressure. This ridge will try and hold on for a bit today and tonight but will ultimately succumb to more widespread unsettled weather for the end of the week.
For this morning it is a chilly and misty start across central and southern counties of England with some fog patches in places but once these lift some bright or sunny spells will develop. However, cloud is already moving into southeast England and this will continue to slowly drift further north and west today to reach parts of the Midlands by the end of the afternoon, that cloud thick enough to bring some scattered showers in places. At the same time, thickening cloud and strengthening southerly winds will bring outbreaks of locally heavy and persistent rain to northern and western parts of Scotland along with western parts of Ireland, this rain crossing much of Ireland and Northern Ireland this afternoon and into the evening. Maximum temperatures today will range from 11°C to 14°C quite widely so not too far from normal for the end of October.
Outbreaks of rain will affect many regions tonight with the front over central and south-eastern parts of the UK intensifying somewhat. A small region extending from southwest England, up across the west Midlands and into northeast England may remain dry, along with the far southeast of England, but it will be a milder night for most thanks to more cloud cover. This takes us into a rather cloudy day tomorrow across much of the country with outbreaks of rain potentially becoming heavier and more persistent across central and south-eastern regions of the UK whilst north-western regions turn more showery.
