High pressure is set to bring another mostly fair day across much of the country today but there will be a couple of exceptions to the mainly settled theme with the odd shower around windward coasts and a frontal system lurking close to the south. This high will be the main feature though and will hang around for another day or two before low pressure and its associated unsettled weather returns for the end of the week.
Once again this morning it is a cold start to the day with some frost and mist or fog patches having formed overnight where skies remained clear and where winds were light. It is less cold around northern and eastern coasts where the onshore breeze is bringing a few showers, and it is also milder towards the southwest where a fresh to strong easterly wind is bringing a lot of cloud and some occasional rain or drizzle, mainly across southern and south-westernmost counties of England along with the Channel Islands. Very little will change today with many places seeing a dry and bright day with sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud, but that shower risk will continue in the north and east whilst the rain in the southwest could become more persistent. It will be another rather chilly day with the highest temperatures coming towards the far southwest where highs of 12°C or 13°C are possible.
Tonight sees many northern regions turning cold and frosty again under clear skies and with light winds meaning some mist and fog patches may also form. The exceptions will again be around coasts and towards the south where more in the way of cloud and breeze will help to hold temperatures up, the cloud thick enough to bring some further outbreaks of rain across the southwest. Wednesday sees very little change but as the high drifts east so an approaching frontal system will bring outbreaks of heavier and more persistent rain to south-western regions later in the day.
