Another very warm day is expected in many regions today but a big change in the weather will be taking place tonight and into tomorrow as an unseasonably deep low swings in from the southwest bringing strong winds and fresher conditions to all regions by tomorrow.
There is a cold front pushing eastwards today with a trough developing ahead of this front across eastern and south-eastern parts of England. Already that trough is sparking off the odd thundery shower across south-eastern regions this morning and these will push north-eastwards today. Not everywhere will catch them, but where they do occur they could be locally heavy with some hail and torrential downpours. Elsewhere and although it's a fine start for many places, the cold front is bringing a band of cloud and rain eastwards across western and northern Britain, the rain most persistent towards the north. This front will continue to push eastwards today, weakening as it does so with brighter conditions following on from the west. It will become very warm once again with temperatures widely into the twenties, peaking at 27°C or 28°C in the London region, but it will be cooler the further the north and west that you are.
Many places will become dry tonight with clear spells but thickening cloud and freshening winds will bring outbreaks of rain into much of Ireland and Northern Ireland during the evening, the rain reaching many western regions of the UK by the morning. To the east it remains dry for much of the night, however some thundery showers may break out late in the night across the far southeast. Any showers and that band of rain clears eastwards tomorrow to leave many places with a bright and windy day but showers will affect the northwest where gales are likely.
