A ridge of high pressure is still managing to hold on across many parts of Britain and Ireland today but it is a losing battle with pressure falling across all areas ahead of a far more changeable and cooler period of weather arriving during the rest of the week, especially towards the northeast of the country where some very unpleasant weather could develop by the weekend.
It's a fine start to Tuesday for most places although there is some patchy mist, fog and low cloud to clear in places, however, the first signs of that change are starting to appear across the far north and northwest as thickening cloud brings outbreaks of rain with it. This cloud and rain, associated with a cold front, will head slowly south-eastwards across central and northern Scotland today with perhaps a few heavy and thundery showers breaking out ahead of it. Otherwise, for most places it will be another fine day with sunny spells although the sunshine will turn hazy at times. Temperatures will struggle to make highs of 11°C to 14°C in the far north, but for most places another very warm day is expected with maximums in the range of 24°C to 27°C quite widely.
It remains rather warm into tonight with temperatures tending to drop at a slower rate compared to recent nights thanks to increasing cloud cover. That cloud will bring showery outbreaks of rain southwards to all but the southeast of England by the morning with somewhat drier conditions following into the north and west. Tomorrow is then set to be a cooler day for many regions although the southeast will still be rather warm and bright. Elsewhere will see an increasing risk of showers breaking out, these potentially turning thundery across parts of the south, but the northwest will be mostly bright if rather cool.
