The week ends on a showery note across many parts of Britain and Ireland but the main focus is on a deepening area of low pressure out over the northern North Sea. This system will continue to deepen as it drifts west and then south before slowly filling over the weekend, but not before bringing wet and windy conditions to many northern and eastern regions in particular.
For this morning and while it is a bright start to the day for many areas, there are also a good scattering of showers moving down from the northwest. Showers will tend to break out more widely during the course of today, turning locally quite heavy with a risk of hail and thunder, but there will still be some sunny spells in between. Coastal regions in the west will also tend to become drier and brighter this afternoon as the showers head further inland. Meanwhile, conditions will deteriorate across the far north and northeast of Scotland today as increasingly wet and windy weather moves in from the northeast, the rain turning heavy and persistent at times. Maximum temperatures today will range from 10°C to 13°C in the north and 14°C to 18°C across southern regions, but it will feel cool in the north as the winds freshen.
Wind and rain in the north will sink southwards tonight, the rain heavy at times whilst winds could gust to over 50 MPH in exposed spots. Somewhat drier conditions will follow into the northeast, and the rain won't reach the far south and southwest until tomorrow. This means a rather cloudy and damp Saturday for many northern, western, and southern regions with brighter spells for the east. However, that sunshine will encourage some heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms to break out over central and eastern parts of England by the afternoon.
