Another interesting day of weather in store for many parts of Britain and Ireland with some big thunderstorms breaking out in places by this afternoon bringing the risk of torrential downpours, hail, lightning and even perhaps the odd funnel cloud or tornado. The culprit is a slack area of low pressure that's still hanging around with this feature going nowhere fast over the next couple of days.
Tuesday has dawned on a similar note to recent mornings with a fair amount of misty low cloud around, especially towards eastern coasts although there is more in the way of sunshine around across north-eastern parts of Scotland. As that mist and low cloud lifts so many regions will see some sunny spells developing, but it won't be long before cloud bubbles up and a scattering of showers break out. Indeed, showers are already affecting parts of the south and west and as we go through the day they will break out more widely with the heaviest downpours likely to be across parts of Wales, northwest England and the Republic of Ireland. This leaves southern and south-eastern coasts of England mostly fine and dry but north-eastern coasts will remain cool and misty whilst eastern and north-eastern parts of Scotland enjoy a mostly sunny day. Top temperatures will range from 13°C to 15°C under the cloud and mist to a warm 22°C to 25°C in the sunnier spots.
Evening showers and thunderstorms will rumble on for a while but will tend to die out overnight although some showers will continue across the west and towards the south coast. Elsewhere and it will again turn misty in places with some low cloud and fog forming. We do it all over again tomorrow with sunny spells and scattered thundery showers the order of the day once early mist and low cloud burns back to the east coast.
