The rather changeable weather continues across many parts of Britain and Ireland today as low pressure continues to sit over or close to the south of the UK. A frontal system is pushing in from the east bringing more persistent rain to central regions whilst heavy thunderstorms are expected to develop across southern counties of England. This leaves the north with the best of the drier and brighter weather on offer.
This morning is starting off on a wet note across parts of the Midlands and East Anglia with some locally heavy outbreaks of rain pushing westwards and perhaps even the odd rumble of thunder. This rain continues to edge north and west to affect many parts of England and Wales during the course of today. Drier and brighter conditions will develop across southern and south-eastern parts of England but the sunshine will help to trigger some heavy thunderstorms for some by this afternoon with some torrential downpours and hail possible in places. This leaves much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with the best of the drier and brighter weather although some showers are likely across Northern Ireland and some of that rain could move into eastern Ireland this afternoon. Top temperatures will vary quite widely, ranging from 13°C to 16°C in the wetter areas and along misty east coasts to 20°C to 24°C in the sunnier spots.
Rain will tend to become confined to Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and southwest England tonight with any showers elsewhere dying out. It will turn misty in places with some low cloud and fog forming, especially towards the northeast. Tomorrow sees that area of cloud and rain in the west slowly pushing north-eastwards but breaking up as it does so. It will be drier and brighter for northern and eastern regions away from north-eastern coasts but scattered showers will break out by the afternoon although they won't be as heavy as recent days.
