It's been a lively week of weather for some areas with thunderstorms bringing some flash flooding in places. However, it's not been the same everywhere with some eastern and north-eastern regions enduring a dull, cool and misty week thanks to onshore winds. The good news for these areas is that winds will be changing direction this weekend but only as an Atlantic weather system pushes in.
For this morning the remnants of yesterday's frontal system is bringing a wet start to the day across parts of Ireland, Wales, southern and south-western England with still some locally quite heavy rain around. It is generally a drier start elsewhere, although there are still some scattered showers around with the best of the sunny spells across parts of northern and eastern England. Skies will tend to brighten up in many areas today but that band of rain to the southwest will be heading back north-eastwards. It will tend to break up and become more showery in nature as it does so with southern and south-western regions brightening up this afternoon. The best of the drier and brighter weather is likely to be across Scotland by this afternoon, although the northeast will yet again be rather cool and cloudy. Maximum temperatures today will range from 13°C to 16°C in the cloudier areas and i the far northeast to 20°C to 23°C in the sunnier regions.
Many places will become dry tonight as showers die out although some will continue across parts of Scotland. Some mist, fog and low cloud will form in places whilst temperatures will drop back into single figures in some rural locations before dawn. Tomorrow will be the longest day of the year in terms of daylight hours and for most places it will be a bright day with some sunny spells and just the odd shower, however a freshening south/south-westerly breeze will bring increasing cloud and some rain into the far west later in the day.
