The heatwave continues across the south and southeast of the UK today with temperatures once again soaring into the 30's. However, with pressure slowly falling so conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for thunderstorms to break out and we are expecting some nasty ones in places during the next few days.
We start off this morning with the remnants of overnight thunderstorms pushing northwards across parts of Scotland whilst there is a fair amount of mist and low cloud around more generally. It is sunnier towards the south and east though and many places will see plenty of dry weather today with spells of sunshine developing. However, some showers, perhaps thundery, will spread into central and southern counties of England this morning before tending to die out as they head north. It will be another hot day towards the south and east with top temperatures again in the range of 33°C to 36°C, but it will again be progressively cooler the further north and west that you are with maximums here in the high teens or low twenties at best.
During the course of the afternoon a few scattered thunderstorms could break out, but we are expecting them to break out more widely this evening, especially across central and western regions of England along with Wales where some torrential downpours, hail, gusty winds and frequent lightning are all possible. These storms will drift slowly north, arriving across parts of Scotland during the course of the night. It will be another warm and muggy night, especially in the south where temperatures will remain in the low-twenties for some After a potentially misty start tomorrow, another hot day is expected across the southeast but some of that warmth will spread further north and west too. Scattered storms will again break out, potentially becoming more widespread by the evening.
