A rather muggy feel to the weather today for many parts of Britain and Ireland as rather warm and moist westerly winds feed in thanks to low pressure sitting to the north and high pressure to the south. A cold front will sink south-eastwards tomorrow introducing fresher air for the second half of the working week.
Back to this morning and the best of the early sunshine will be found across Scotland and northern England with predominantly cloudy skies affecting the rest of Britain and Ireland. The sunnier skies in the north will tend to become confined to north-eastern regions today as cloudier conditions spread north, bringing outbreaks of rain and drizzle across many parts of western Scotland by this afternoon. Outbreaks of light rain and drizzle will affect other western regions at times, but some brighter spells will develop in places this afternoon with areas sheltered from the west/south-westerly wind most favoured for seeing some sunny spells. In the best of the sunshine temperatures will climb to highs of 22°C to 24°C, remaining a touch cooler where it stays cloudier.
Outbreaks of rain will turn heavier and more persistent across many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland this evening, sinking southwards so that by dawn a band of rain will be extending across many parts of Ireland, north Wales and northern England, the rain most persistent over higher ground. Clearer and more showery conditions will follow into the north where it will also become cooler, but it will be a warm and muggy night for central and southern regions. That band of cloud and patchy rain will continue to sink south across England and Wales tomorrow with clearer, brighter and fresher conditions following on from the north along with a few scattered showers.
