A very unsettled midweek period for many parts of Britain and Ireland as low pressure dominates bringing showers or longer spells of rain with it along with the risk of some strong winds for a time across the far southeast. The changeable weather is here to stay too with further low pressure systems set to move in across the country over the coming days.
Back to today and there are three main areas of rain or showers to watch. Firstly showery outbreaks of rain are affecting many northern and western parts of Scotland along with north-western parts of Ireland and these won't go far today, spreading across other parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland during the course of the day. Another band of showers is extending from north-eastern parts of England down towards Wales and the far southwest of England but these showers will tend to get drawn into the main area of rain affecting many central, southern and south-eastern regions of England today, the rain heavy and persistent at times, bringing the potential for over an inch of rainfall in places. This rain will only slowly pull away to the east later so for parts of the Midlands and eastern England it will be a pretty overcast and wet day. This leaves parts of southern and eastern Scotland with the best of the drier and sunnier conditions, these clearer conditions spreading into parts of Wales and northwest England later. Despite the rain it will be a mild day with top temperatures of 13°C to 16°C but it will be very windy across the far southeast of England for a time.
That rain will finally clear eastern parts of England tonight to leave many areas with a mixture of clear spells and scattered showers, the showers heaviest and most frequent towards the north where it will also turn rather chilly. Thursday is then set to be a day of sunny spells and scattered showers for many regions but the showers will tend to ease from the west during the course of the day as a ridge of high pressure builds in for a time.
