The working week is ending on a foggy note across parts of England and Wales thanks to a ridge of high pressure that has taken control of our weather. This ridge doesn't go too far in the next 24 hours or so meaning that some of the fog may be slow to clear. However, as we start to pick up a bit of an easterly breeze over the weekend so the fog risk will tend to decrease.
Back to this morning and there is a widespread frost to greet the day along with that fog. Some dense and freezing patches of fog can be found across inland regions of England and east Wales and they will be very slow to clear with some areas remaining misty and murky all day which will hold temperatures down as a result. Elsewhere and some sunny spells will develop with parts of Ireland, north Wales, eastern and northern England along with southern Scotland likely to see the best of these. Meanwhile, for the far northwest and for the far south and southeast of the country there will be more in the way of cloud around, the cloud thick enough to bring a little rain in places. Top temperatures will range from 5°C to 8°C for most places but the far south will make double figures whilst where fog lingers values will be closer to freezing.
The fog thickens up again this evening but as more of a breeze and some thicker cloud moves into southern regions so the thickest fog is likely to be across northern parts of England tonight where a widespread frost will also form. Elsewhere and the cloud will bring a little light rain or drizzle in places with temperatures not quite as chilly as last night. This does take us into a generally dull, misty and murky weekend for many regions with the risk of a little rain from time to time. It will be rather chilly for most too, but the far south and southwest will be milder.
