High pressure to the east and northeast of the country is keeping many areas dry and cold as we head into the weekend but as low pressure over the Atlantic edges closer so east/southeast winds will be picking up making conditions feel even colder with a noticeable wind chill factor developing as dry continental air is imported. Frontal systems will also be trying to push eastwards, bringing the risk of some snow with them, but they will quickly weaken as they run into the cold air.
Once again it is another very cold morning out there with a widespread frost having formed overnight although temperatures generally aren't quite as low as they were yesterday morning thanks to more in the way of a east/south-easterly wind blowing. These winds are bringing some snow showers into eastern parts of Scotland whilst cloudier skies will affect many south-western regions of England, Wales and Ireland today as outbreaks of rain and snow slowly peter out thanks to that dry air moving in from mainland Europe. Otherwise, for many areas the week will end on a dry and bright note with some sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud drifting around. It will be another very cold day for all with top temperatures in the range of 0°C to 4°C, and feeling colder still in those winds.
Another area of rain and snow will move into the far southwest of England along with parts of Ireland tonight keeping temperatures a touch higher here, but for many it will be another frosty night under clear skies with a penetrating frost forming as any remaining snow showers in the northeast die out. This takes us into a very cold start to the weekend with most places remaining dry and bright, but that rain and snow will be edging slowly eastwards into Northern Ireland and western parts of the mainland UK. with much milder air returning to the far southwest.
