Bear with us, in long high pressure dominated spells of weather then anything different is seized upon by meteorologists with glee! Today sees a slight relaxation of high pressure allowing for a cold front to move in from the northwest. Granted, this front will become increasingly weak as pressure rises again tomorrow, but hey, we'll take it.
Let's start with the exciting bit then and for many parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland it is a cloudy, misty and murky start to the day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting many areas. This cloudy, damp weather will slowly sink south-eastwards today so that by the end of the afternoon it is lying across southern Scotland, the far north of England and across much of Ireland with the rain becoming increasingly light and patchy. This will allow for clearer conditions with scattered showers to follow into central and northern parts of Scotland along with Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, for many parts of England and Wales it will be another fine day with sunny spells after early low cloud and mist has burnt back to eastern coasts and it will become rather warm with temperatures into the high teens, but this could trigger an isolated late heavy shower. Eastern coasts will be much cooler where the mist lingers and it will also be cooler across northern Scotland.
That band of cloud and patchy rain or drizzle will continue to edge ever so slowly south tonight. To the north and south of this system it will be dry with clear spells and a frost forming across the north, remaining milder under the cloud though. This takes us into a cooler and cloudier day across central and southern regions tomorrow as that patchy rain continues on it southwards journey. Drier and sunnier conditions will follow from the north but it will be feeling cooler once more.
