Although all parts of Britain and Ireland will be under the influence of low pressure centred over or close to northern parts this weekend it will actually be a weekend of contrasts. This is due to the showery nature of much of the rain that will be falling with some areas seeing frequent downpours whilst others escape with predominantly dry conditions.
Today's forecast is centred around a mixture of sunny spells and showers for many regions, the showers heavy with thunder at times, and although the breeze will help them to pass through quite quickly in the south, light winds in the north mean that showers will be slow-moving here and so they could become quite prolonged. There is an occluded front pushing eastwards today and this feature is bringing a band of rain into western parts of England and Wales this morning before it heads on further east, the rain becoming more showery in nature. Once again, some places will be lucky enough to remain mostly dry with sunny spells for much of the day, with parts of northeast Scotland most favoured whilst south-western regions will tend to become drier this afternoon. Maximum temperatures today will be very similar to yesterday, ranging from the high teens in the showery regions to the low twenties where there is more in the way of drier and sunnier weather around.
Showers, often heavy, will continue well into tonight for many regions but they will tend to become confined to more coastal regions later in the night with some southern and eastern areas becoming mainly dry. Tomorrow sees little change with sunshine and showers dominating, and whilst some places will manage to stay dry and bright, others will be hit by some torrential downpours and thunderstorms. especially towards the north and northwest.
